Warta Ekonomi, Jakarta -

Wyndham Destinations has donated more than 56 million Indonesian Rupiah of aid and essentials to three villages in Lombok affected by recent earthquakes and is encouraging global businesses in Indonesia to do the same.

Lombok's east, north and northeast are recovering from a series of fatal earthquakes in July and August which brought down and damaged many structures in the island's north, with the effects particularly evident in smaller villages. Representatives from the international hospitality company presented three emergency kits to the communities in Sigar Penjalin and Desa Tempos Kujur, Genggelang in Lombok’s north, and Kog in the island's east this week.

The kits provided each village with two wheelbarrows, blankets, plastic buckets, carpet, food items, sanitary items, clothing, baby nappies, mosquito repellent and tarpaulins and rope to erect temporary accommodation while homes are rebuilt.

"The recovery process is well underway in Lombok and we are pleased to be part of the local and international effort seeking to restore this beautiful island to its glory as quickly as possible," said Brian Townsend, Area General Manager of PT Wyndham Hotel Management, the Indonesian subsidiary of Wyndham Destinations.

"The damage to the island's towns and cities was well-publicised and recovery often focuses on population centres, so we have chosen to support the recovery of three villages where the effects were just as severe. It is a way we can give back to the island's residents and we would encourage other international operators represented in Indonesia to do the same."

The 56 million Indonesian Rupiah was raised through a direct donation from Wyndham Destinations Asia Pacific, based in Australia, Wyndham Destinations' managed properties in Indonesia, the properties' owners, and the contributions of generous staff working in the hotels and resorts. Wyndham Hotels & Resorts also donated an additional 21 million Indonesian Rupiah.

"Staff at our Indonesian properties did not hesitate to contribute to the appeal and were passionate about helping others in their hour of need," added Mr Townsend.
